While I was enjoying some fantastic early summer weather (finally!), hiking with my wife and two dogs, the season opened at Coronet Peak in New Zealand. I will be heading over next week to join my fellow ski instructors and NZSIA Examiners for early season training next week. I'll admit, I am enjoying the summer weather here and until las t week I wasn't looking forward to heading to early winter season conditions again. You, patches of snow covering unseeable rock outcroppings with patches of grass emerging from the icy man-made snow.

This however does not look to be the case! Coronet Peak is reporting a 65cm base already and new snow seems to be falling almost daily. The other areas, yet to open, are reporting very similar conditions. It looks as though it will a great early season in NZ an I am very much looking forward to experiencing it.

If you are thinking of heading down under for some skiing this season here are a few links that might help.
