Teaching both skiing and snowboarding in winter , I have made Aspen Snowmass my home.
Ever listen to the lyrics of `Rocky Mountain High?` It talks about a guy who came to Colorado in summer of his 27th year, realized he had found home, and made a break from his former life.
Reality is what dreams are made of... and my dreams were of sun filled days and powder snow. The only way to find deep, untracked powder.... and smiles so big they hurt... is to take a vacation from your job in the city & come ski or ride with me. If you don't do it this year, as Warren Miller says, you'll only be one year older when you do.
And besides, those things on your desk that seem so important will be miles away and not nearly as critical to life when viewed from 10000 feet on a champange powder slope under a Colorado azur sky
I've never looked back---I fell in love with Aspen upon my arrival. I came on vacation, decided that it would be a great location to write my dissertation, and after completing my PhD, I remained here teaching skiing and snowboarding. I am convinced that God made Aspen with skiers on his mind. I am in love with a beautiful italian and married and not into hooking up.

Sharing an icy, cold lift ride during a white out… huddled together against the falling snow… learning how to spin a helicopter…dropping your first cliff…or getting chased by ski patrol…our Dad giving us Peppermint Schnapps on the lift [“It’ll warm your tummy up,” he’d say….]
During the winter, the mountains around Aspen are my church & the bonds that are created amongst us that ski are just as strong as those created at any actual physical sanctuary.
My outlet for joy has become the mountains around Aspen--lapping up the excitement discovering a new line through the trees… nailing a steep descent off the Hanging Valley Wall… and sharing the anticipation of following patrollers on their way to open a high gate in the Bowl into thigh deep powder. And later, seeing each other at dinner, and smiling the smile of those who shared our secrets….
At some point in one’s life, every skier must drop out, and drop off the work/school/responsibility grid, return to a ski town and ski. In the deep valleys and open bowls of the endless Aspen Snowmass backcountry, one can make out the whine of snowmobiles amongst the silence of the mountains. It is the skier's call of the wild---born of a hunger for the big mountain experience and deep powder---for living the dream is indeed the call for every skier.
The mountains challenge us physically and demand us to learn; and the environment here in Aspen enriches the mind, body and renews the spirit.
In some ways, those that live to ski are ego-centric and selfish. We sacrifice to live in an area where we can practice our sport all winter, ski with our buddies, and live our lifestyle.
With every passing winter, I am reminded just how fortunate I am to live and work in the jewel of the North American Rockies, Aspen. And never has that reality hit me more poignantly than this last winter…, teaching for 14 days with a female endocrinologist from New York.
For eight hours every day, we were friends doing what we loved to do. We were skiers just hammering the mountain, sharing a fraternal love for the sport we call skiing. It was a clear reminder of why I have worked so hard to carve out a job in an industry I love.
Here’s to our lifestyle…, our friends…, our ski buddies…, our mountain community, and our sport. I hope you enjoy my website and come make turns with me this winter.

I love these mountains and what all that they hold: hiking, camping, canoeing, mountain biking, kayaking, mountain boarding.
Although life in a large city like Paris was very fascinating, I have found my home here in this mountain hamlet four hours from Denver and have no desire to leave this surreal paradise, especially for the pressures and stresses of a large metropolitan area. Life in this unique small town is relaxed and casual, but with all the cultural oportunities of a large city.
Enjoy woodworking, oil and acrylic painting, and steel sculpture. Artist in residence at Anderson Art Center in Snowmass.
************************************ Enjoy extreme snowboarding in winter; white water kayaking, windsurfing, camping, mountain boarding in summer. Placed 6th in US Nationals for Mountainboard Boarder-X. I have made home Aspen where I love the Colorado cool nights in the mountains with all the spectaculer hiking, camping, and fishing Colorado offers. I enjoy French lit. [Flaubert, Zola, and Balzac], Hellenistic architecture; and Classical Greek, Roman, & Renaissance Italian painting/sculpture.==================
Our national parks are a promise that we, as Americans, have made to ourselves. As a people, we have resolved to protect a small portion of our nation from the ravages of "progress," to allow room for the bears and the foxes, the wildflowers and the ancient forests, to preserve the crown jewels of America's cultural and ancient heritage. The 54 National Parks allow lone hikers to lose, or find, themselves, skiers to ski the unskiable, climbers to test their mettle against the elements, and scientists to study the natural world in its nearly pristine natural condition.
Our National Parks are an acknowledgement of the deep human need for wilderness. Many are areas without roads, where we can move closer to rock and sky, to the stars and the shadows, to infinite space and silence. Indeed, these parks are where we can gaze at something greater than ourselves and let our dreams run wild. The Parks are more than islands of nature---they are sanctuaries of the human heart.
